"Do you know some chinese?"
"No..." "Well, this is China, might not be a bad idea..." - scene from the movie The Karate Kid No menu cards were translated, nobody spoke english and we hadn´t brought along a chinese dictionary. My friends Paul and Vanessa and I knew that it would be a tricky situation to order our meals at the chinese restaurant. First, we requested the popular dish "sweet and sour". The waitress didn´t get it. So we asked for "chicken". She still didn´t have a clue what we were talking about. Therefore, we simply took the menu card and randomly pointed at three dishes, hoping that they were the "right choice". I suppose I had sweet and sour. Vanessa had a vegetarian dish with eggplant. Paul had rice and meat (no detailed information about its origin). We must say, they were tasty, indeed! At the end of this short trip to Beijing we still couldn´t order a dish in chinese, but we have seen and learned much more...
