... this was just the beginning of the beginning 3 months have now passed since I started my Flight Attendant course, which means that my probation period is finally over and I am officially an F/A 1 (Flight Attendant 1 is the designation for the qualification of business class aswell as economy class service on shorthaul flights and economy class service on longhaul flights). Now I will be travelling fulltime and improving my knowledge in practice. After 9-12 months, hopefully if everything goes well as until now, I will go back to school to prepare myself for the business class service on longhaul flights, subsequently getting my F/A 2 qualification. With this qualification it´s possible to work as Freelance F/A, which is a great option for students. I am planning to work for 2 years until I become an F/A 2, such that I can work as freelance while studying at University. But let´s see what the future has reserved for me... :) Almost 4 months have passed and it feels like it was just yesterday that I had my first course day. Time rushes literally when I am flying. So many things have happened, beautiful memories come to my mind when looking back to the past few weeks... This year I celebrated my birthday above the clouds. I had 4 legs/flights scheduled, Zurich- Bukarest-Zurich-Hamburg-Zurich. I was the only female in my team, which was a new and funny experience. My colleagues Roman, Nicolas and Adrian were super attentive and supportive, as it was my first day of "exam" in the Business class. The outbound flight to Bukarest was calm, I served 2 passengers in the Business class, an adorable spanish-english speaking old couple. They didn´t want anything to eat so I dedicated my time talking to them, mostly in spanish. We learned a lot about each other and also about life. "I am on a happiness- diet." - Mr. Raudales After taking care of the flight crew, the pilots, I also got the chance to perform the duty free sales, one of my favourite tasks. On the inbound flight to Zurich we had a bit more bumpy trip, what didn´t help to calm down a passenger with fear of flying. At the beginning I was able to make her feel more comfortable on the plane but in the middle of the flight, when it got very turbulent, she broke out in panic and only my Senior Cabin Crew Roman could take care of her. We all did a great job as a team. At the end of the day I was quite tired but very pleased for this great journey. I will never forget that day! When I travelled to America I was overwhelmed and couldn´t believe that I was finally getting to see those big cities we see on screen. What I also love is the openness of the Americans. On my first flight to Boston I met a young lady in a library who liked my cardigan and asked me where I had bought it. Another fact is that Americans love Switzerland! Everyone I met said it is the most beautiful country and they love the alps, the landscape, the snow and the chocolate... Also on the second flight to Boston my colleagues and I were addressed by a guy who thought we were fashion models. And the conversation continued until he asked where we all came from. My colleague Lena is german, so he started talking in german. Also could he speak some portuguese and french, my colleague Aissai was born in Paris. It was such a strange and funny moment, getting to know "Mike" in the middle of the city of Boston, who could speak our languagues. Just in the week after, at the "chilbi" of Steinhausen, the yearly market, I got to know a latin-american salesman whose Name was Ruben (the name of my brother) and who had a sister called Liliana! This was fate... In these moments I realise how small our world is but also how many secrets and wonders are still hidden. I feel so grateful for being on this endless journey to get to discover these great things, get to know people and get to know life. Also have I made great friendships, with my class from the basic course, with my crews... It´s always a pleasure to meet someone casually in the Operation Center and to tell each other the latest news. And last but not least, I have to say that I have the best friends and family, for their huge support and understanding when I arrive home so tired that I just want to sleep, and for their flexibility for changing plans when I must go to work. I can´t thank them enough!!! But what about YOU, which particular moment has marked your life :)?
Estarei-lhes eternamente grata! E tu, que momento particular marcou a tua vida :) ?
